I’m currently in the process of landing an agent. In my experience, this is the worst part of being a writer. I know I’m not alone in my feelings here. You’ve finished writing a book and you want the world to read it, but which road do you take? I’m not even going to attempt to answer that one. The industry is changing so fast! Many are saying that agents are becoming obsolete. I’m not sure if that’s true or not. Many writers are wanting to jump on that band wagon of opinion because of sour grapes. And hey, it’s hard not to have sour grapes when it comes to agents.
I’ll come to my point and stop chasing that little rabbit.
I’ve recently joined Romance Writers of America (RWA) and I think it was the best decision I could have made for my career. I wish I would have known about them when I was trying to sell my first novel. If you are not a romance writer, no fear, there are lots of organizations out there to help you in your writing career. Having support is important! For me, so far, the best thing has been to come in contact with other writers who are more seasoned than I am. It’s hard to put a price on wisdom and experience.
